With it being mid October and no amazing records within sight of the rest of the year, I thought it might be a good time to bring up some Album of The Year contenders.
Some records that come to mind right away include (top 5, in order)-
Lovedrug - Everything Starts Where It Ends
Brighten - King VS Queen
As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
Haste The Day - Pressure The Hinges
Neon Horse - Ne... wait did he just say Neon Horse???1wtf?!?
I know - what about Anberlin. Im also considering Drop Dead Gorgeous and Falling Up.
Anyway, enough about me. How about you? I want some input for when we compile or Top Records of '07 (according to this ridiculous blog) list.

for me personally its nothing less than an off year when emery and anberlin both release new records that dont make my top 5.
? no CHASING VICTORY?!?! The Devil Wears Prada? and don't forget, Far-Less has a fantastic new one coming out in just a week! Too soon i say, too soon!

My Top 5:
1. Between The Buried and Me - Colors (in my opinion, nothing else even comes close)
2. Iron and Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
3. As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
4. Becoming The Archetype - The Physics of Fire
5. Minus The Bear - Planet of Ice
Honorable mention: Every Time I Die - The Big Dirty, Impending Doom - Nailed. Dead. Risen.
Oh and how could I forget Maylene and the Sons of Disaster II...

5. Neon Horse (yes I know, Neon Horse)
Honorable mention: As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us (This was really close between Neon Horse)

There are THREE new records coming out the 23rd and you failed to mention all three.
Oh Sleeper, Far-Less, and Cobra Starship ALL have new cds out that day.
There is one more I'm forgetting but seriously, that's beside the point.
my top 20 will be just december 1rst
As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
Anberlin - Cities
Thrice - The Alchemy Index Volume 1
Dustin Kensrue - Please Come Home
The Fold - Secrets Keep You Sick
The Chariot - The Fiancee
Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long
Between The Trees - The Story and The Song
Paramore - Riot!
The Starting Line - Direction
Current top 10, but still have to listen to Jimmy Eat World, Coheed and Cambria, and Say Anything...
good picks garrett! the fold and paramore are definitely highly replayable.
andy, what did you think of august burns red against BTBAM?
anonymous has some good picks.
Despite any recent Sullivan drama, i loved their new cd. Maylenes new one is great, loved Paramores, definitely As Cities Burn and August Burns Red. I'm bummed that I didnt like TDWP or Emery's new records enough to rank them at the top of my list.
The new Coheed and Say Anything are deff. tops on my list for the actual end of the year, gonna go to Next Big Thing this year just for Jimmy Eats World and Cohheed.
TDWP's new album is ... weird. Not what I was looking for when I bought it. If you listen to it several times it does grow on you though. and yes sara how could I forget Maylene's new album? That's a great one too ..
im goin to NBT too dan to see JEW, but a ton of other bands there as well. only two "meh" bands on that entire line-up for me.
and Jimmy Eat World isnt in my top 10, its 11th, haha.
Garrett is Paramore going to be there?
My old Paramore shirt is really worn out (I got it back when it wasn't cool to like them) and I need a new one.
As Cities Burn hands down
I'm gonna make a top ten list because there has been so many good ones out there. I have ties with some of them too. lol
1. As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep
1. Becoming The Archetype - The Physics Of Fire
1. Anberlin - Cities
4. As I Lay Dying - An Ocean Between Us
5. August Burns Red - Messengers
6. The Chariot - The Fiancee
7. The Almost - Southern Weather
8. Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster - II
8. Haste The Day - Pressure The Hinges
10. Sullivan - Cover Your Eyes
Honorable Mention: Emery - I'm Only A Man, Spoken - Spoken, The Wedding - Polarity, Project 86 - Rival Factions, Mae - Singularity, Neon Horse - Neon Horse
I'm sure some of those honorable mentions will be in my top 10 in time, but some of them recently came out. Also, Thrice, Oh Sleeper, or Demon Hunter still have albums that haven't came out or I haven't listened to yet so those might just be in there too.
I completely forgot about the Wedding, shame on me.
To the question above...
Honestly, I love both albums. The sheer progressiveness of Colors is really hard to beat though. Not saying that I don't think ABR is progressive, because they are one of the more progressive hardcore bands out there right now, and Messengers is a great album, but I can't say I would put it on the same level as Colors.
Still though, both are great albums.
...this is a great topic by the way. Let's do it again at year's end.
Oh yeah, two more Oct. 23rd records:
Say Anything and The Glorious Unseen.
I'm not making anything definitive until at least Thanksgiving.
I think "King vs. Queen" by Brighten is the best album of the year hands down. I'm glad someone else out there agrees it's near the top. I also think John Reuben put out a very solid, top 10, album but ya'll don't talk about that knida music here. HAHA.
I love J.Reu, he throws an amazing live show, but his new record was kinda meh compared to The Boy vs. The Cynic.
I still love Are We There Yet more than any of the recent cds he put out. I did like Boy vs. Cinic...but haven't heard anything newer than that I'm afraid.
I think John Reuben has gotten better with each album. He is more profound in his lyrics and the music gets better.
NEON HORSE!
